More than 100 journeyman linemen teams and individual apprentices will be competing Saturday at the JEA Southbank site at 801 Broadcast Place. There will be free parking at the School Board building.

Opening ceremonies begin at 7:45 a.m. The competition starts at 8 a.m. and runs through 2 p.m.

The annual FMEA event assembles the best of the best from around the southeastern United States to test skills in a timed setting emphasizing safety, excellence and honor. Events include cross arm change out, rope toss, cutout replacement and the very popular hurt man rescue.

In addition to the competition, the free family-friendly event will have games for kids and food vendors. Spectators are welcome to come and watch as these skilled craftsmen display the best work practices and safety in the field.

Sixteen JEA journeyman linemen and eight apprentices are competing this year.
