CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -

A toddler reported missing in a Lake Asbury neighborhood early Tuesday morning was found safe -- having walked to his babysitter's home.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office issued a code red alert when the 23-month-old was reported missing at 3 a.m.  A neighborhood canvass turned up nothing, but the boy was located at his babysitter's home about one-third of a mile away.

According to the incident report, the child was able to demonstrate how he unlocked and opened the front door, and the boy if familiar with the route from his home to the babysitter's house because he has been walked that way in the past.

The child was briefly turned over to the Florida Division of Children and Families until the mother could return home from working at overnight shift at Jacksonville Fire-Rescue.

The Sheriff's Office says no charges will be filed in the case.
