JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

An 85-year-old man involved in a crash last month died Wednesday, according to Jacksonville police.

Police said Sherman Newberry was driving northbound on Interstate 95 about 3:45 p.m. Dec. 19. As he was approaching Martin Luther King Parkway, traffic in his lane stopped or slowed for traffic ahead, police said.

They said Newberry apparently failed to notice it in time and struck the rear of a tractor-trailer.

Newberry was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was cited for careless driving.

Newberry died Wednesday at a hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

Police said their investigation is continuing.
