A Jacksonville man is in critical condition after a crash pushed his car into a retention pond Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

It happened just before 8 o'clock on Chafee Road.

Troopers said a minivan driven by Christopher Knezevich, 33, was traveling behind a two-door Chevrolet driven by Stefan Cosa, 56.

Troopers said Cosa started to slow down but Knezevich didn't, and his minivan struck Cosa's Chevrolet from behind.

The impact sent the Chevrolet into a retention pond and became submerged.

Witnesses stopped, pulled Cosa out, and performed CPR until rescue arrived.

Cosa was taken to Orange Park Medical Center in critical condition.

Troopers said charges are pending.
