JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A man died a day after he was shot in the parking lot of a Northside nightclub.

The shooting happened around 10:40 p.m. Saturday at Celebrity's Cafe in the 5500 block of Soutel Drive.

Police say hundreds of teens were at a party at the nightclub. The party was ending and everyone was standing in the parking lot when witnesses say they heard one gunshot.

On Sunday, police said Darrell Carswell, 20, died at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center. A friend drove him there Saturday, where he was rushed into surgery.

"Right now we're at the beginning stages and we're not sure why this started or what took place," said Detective Michael Paul with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide unit.  No one heard any argument outside. They heard the one gunshot and everybody started running from the area."

No word on who fired the gunshot. Police are looking to talk to anyone who was at the party. Police said they are investigating the shooting as a homicide.

If you have any information you're asked to call the Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
