A 38-year-old man was convicted this week on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and no valid driver's license.

In May, Orange Park police tried to contact Steven McCloud in the parking lot of the Orange Park Billiards. When the officer approached McCloud's car, McCloud tried to run the officer over in the parking lot. He then took off from the area and refused to pull over for police.

Weeks later, Clay County deputies were conducting a checkpoint in the area and spotted McCloud's car. McCloud was driving with a suspended license at the time. Deputies arrested him at the scene.

McCloud is a habitual felony offender with convictions for felony drug possession, forgery, felony fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and leaving the scene of an accident with injury. He faces 30 years in prison and will be sentenced Feb. 13.
