ORANGE PARK, Fla. -

A 26-year-old man hospitalized after a deputy-involved shooting last month has since been released from the hospital and booked into jail.

Deputies responded to a call about a suicidal man at 351 Crossing Boulevard in Orange Park, off Wells Road, on Dec. 13.

They said they confronted Nicholas Cannady in the breezeway of the apartment complex when he pointed a handgun at the two deputies. This led one deputy to fire his weapon three times at Cannady.

That deputy, Reginald Hyatt, rendered first aid to Cannady until Clay County Fire-Rescue personnel arrived to take Cannady to Orange Park Medical Center.

Cannady is charged with attempted murder and assault on a law enforcement officer.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy-involved-shooting.

Hyatt has returned to his normal patrol assignment.
