Deputies in Putnam County are investigating after a man was shot and killed during an argument at an Interlachen home Monday morning.
Investigators were called to the shooting in the 200 block of Putnam Avenue about 9 a.m.
They said 53-year-old Rafael Gomez, of Interlachen, had been shot multiple times after an altercation at the home. He was taken to Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka, where he died.
Investigators said Gomez had gone to the home and became engaged in an altercation with a man who was a longtime acquaintance. They said the specifics of the nature of the argument are currently unclear.
Deputies said both men armed themselves, and the altercation escalated to the point that Gomez was shot.
The other man then called 911, remained at the scene and was cooperative with law enforcement upon their arrival, deputies said.
They said the investigation is in the early stages and additional details, including the name of the other man, are not available for release at this time.
Deputies said further information will be provided when it becomes available.
