The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says a 22-year-old man wanted in a case of lewd conduct on a child at the Arlington Walmart has turned himself in.
Deputies say Steven Allen Sours, 22, has been arrested for lewd and lascivious molestation on a 13-year-old girl while she was shopping at the Walmart located at 11900 Atlantic Boulevard.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the girl stayed behind in a section of the store about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday while her mother was shopping in another part of the store.
The girl told authorities that Sours allegedly cupped and squeezed her buttocks and then left the store. Deputies said a surveillance video showed Sours following the girl around the store prior to the incident taking place.
Around 1:18 a.m. on Saturday, deputies said Sours came to the Police Memorial Building to turn himself in after learning of the news article. His mother and grandfather accompanied Sours.
The grandfather said that Sours and his mother all recognized his picture from the news and news websites. Officials said the grandfather further stated that he told Sours that it was better to come to the police station and turn himself in, rather than have the police come to his house. Sours agreed, and all three drove to the police station.
Sours's grandfather told police that this incident was out of character for Sours. He also said that Sours is a child photographer and that he photographs children all day.
In the Deer Ridge neighborhood, neighbors learned that one of their neighbors, Sours, was accused of molesting a child.
"That's a horrible thing to find out that somebody living that close to you would do something like that," said Earvin Jenkins. "That's crazy, I can't believe somebody would do something like that inside Walmart."
Jenkins said he's glad Sours did the right thing by going to police.
"I'm just glad he turned himself in and not do that to anybody else," said Jenkins. "I can't imagine what the family is going through with a situation like that."
