Mother, son shot at Kissimmee day care center

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -

Police detectives are investigating a shooting that happened in the area of Smith and Cypress streets in Kissimmee early Saturday morning.

Police said officers responded to the Tiny Tots Child Care Center at approximately 7 a.m. about shots heard.  Arriving officers found a 32-year-old woman and her 9-year-old son had suffered gunshot wounds, police said.

The victims were in their car waiting for the business to open when the incident occurred, police said.

Police said the mother and child were taken to local hospital and are expected to survive.

Witnesses heard the gunshots and saw a dark vehicle leaving the area at the time of the incident, police said.
