Motorcyclist, 42, killed in Starke crash

STARKE, Fla. -

A 42-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Bradford County on Thursday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Markus Staten, of Starke, was riding east on Weldon Street just after 7 a.m. when a car traveling westbound tried to turn left onto North Orange Street and pulled into his path.

Staten's motorcycle struck the right front of the car. He was thrown from the bike. Troopers said he was not wearing a helmet.

Staten was taken to Shands Starke Regional Medical Center, where he died.

The driver of the car, 47-year-old Lisa Rowe-Lewis, of Starke, was not injured.

Troopers said charges are pending.
