A 41-year-old motorcyclist lost control of his bike, slid across the road and ended up in the middle of the road in a Bradford County crash around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said it happened on County Road 225 North near Lawtey.

Investigators said Stacey Jenkins, of Orange Park, was not wearing a helmet.

He was taken to Shands Medical Center in Gainesville where he was listed in critical condition.

What caused Jenkins to lose control of his bike is still under investigation. Troopers said no one else was involved.
