A newborn is recovering at a hospital after she was found in a plastic grocery bag in the Houston area.
Authorities say a woman walking her dog found the baby in the bag on a curb outside an apartment complex.
Officials say the child still had several inches of umbilical cord attached, but had been cleaned up before being put in the bag.
They say the baby appeared to be in good condition, but she could have died if she'd been out there all night.
Investigators say they don't understand why someone did this, because Texas law allows people to drop off a newborn at a hospital or fire station, no questions asked.
Authorities are now looking for the mother.
