An officer and several others suffered only minor injuries in a crash in Northwest Jacksonville late Wednesday afternoon.

Police said an officer was responding to a report of a suicide about 4:30 p.m. He was traveling northbound on Myrtle Avenue North with his emergency lights and siren on, police said.

Investigators said the officer stopped at a red light at the intersection with Kings Road and inched his way into the intersection. His view was blinded by a building on the corner.

A car heading east on Kings Road didn't see the police cruiser and collided with it in the intersection, police said.

The officer was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with minor injuries.

A man, woman, two children in the other car also suffered minor injuries but were not hospitalized.

Investigators said the officer used the proper technique to stop and inch out into the intersection because of the blind view and red light. They did say their investigation is ongoing.

The officer's name was not released at the scene.
