Owner of cellphone store shot

Monday night gunfire broke out at Cellular Plus of Jax, a cell phone store at the corner of Lem Turner Road and Prospect Street. Police say the person running the store was shot twice and is in life threatening condition and is in surgery at Shands-Jacksonville. Police are still searching for the shooter.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office investigators said a man shot a cellphone store owner twice before walking away from the store Monday night.

Sgt. Lonnie Mills said 45-year-old Samy Zahra was found shot inside the Cellular Plus of Jax store at 8712 Lem Turner Blvd. around 7:30 p.m.

Mills said a man wearing a white shirt and dark pants was seen headed north out of the parking lot and is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Zahra is from Egypt and was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He underwent emergency surgery.

A description of the shooter was not available, and police were not sure of the motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and could receive a $1,000 cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
