Pedestrian critical after being hit on Beach Blvd.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A pedestrian whose name has not been released was critically injured Sunday night when struck by a SUV on Beach Boulevard just east of Southside Boulevard.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a white Ford Explorer, was traveling east on Beach Boulevard when the pedestrian tried to cross the road at Eve Drive West. Troopers say the pedestrian ran into the path of the SUV and the impact thew the person to the south shoulder and onto the concrete sidewalk.

Jacksonville Fire-Rescue transported the victim to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The FHP is not releasing the person's name pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the SUV -- James, Anderson, 42, of Jacksonville -- was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
