BUNNELL, Fla. -

The Florida Highway Patrol is working to notify the family of a pedestrian struck by a car Thursday morning while crossing U.S. Highway 1 in Bunnell.

Troopers say the person was not using a crosswalk when crossing the highway just south of West Plain Street. The victim was taken to Halifax Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford Taurus that struck the pedestrian -- Gerlad Szostak, 68, of Ormond Beach -- was not injured.

The FHP says the investigation into the accident are continuing and charges are pending.
