A body is found behind a laundromat.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The man found dead behind a laundromat at the corner of Southside and Beach boulevards on Friday night was a transient.

Around 9:30 p.m., Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded to a call 911 call about an injured man near the coin laundry at the strip mall behind the Malabar Cocktail Lounge.  The man, identified Tuesday morning as 57-year-old Earl Wayne Griffin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives that night said the victim had a head injury and they were trying to track down the person who placed the 911 call to ask further questions.

"We are not going into describing the victim's injuries right now. We do want the public to know that we are treating this as a homicide," said JSO Sgt. Michael Paul.

Paul said there were no suspects at this time.

If you have any information regarding this case, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
