A homeless man in his 20s wielding a knife and making threats from the rooftop of an office plaza adjacent to Florida Atlantic University on Friday morning was shot by campus police, according to the Boca Raton Police Department.
The shooting happened in the research park on the north end of campus on Friday morning and did not involve students. The campus was never on lockdown and no one was in danger, school officials told WPBF-TV.
The man was taken to a hospital, but his identity and condition were not immediately known.
Boca Raton police are expected to release more information later in the day.
A similar threat took place at FAU in November, when the campus went on lockdown after a report of an armed man who pointed a gun to a student's head. No shots were fired and no one was hurt, and the lockdown was lifted a few hours after it was issued.
And just Thursday, police arrested a man after exchanging gunfire with him on the campus of Indian River State College in Fort Pierce.
