Police ID body found in Fort Caroline Road

A body was found on Fort Caroline Road and is being investigated.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police have identified a body found lying in Fort Caroline Road early Sunday morning.

According to authorities, the victim is 19-year-old Thomas James Nunley of Jacksonville.

Nunley was found unresponsive partially in the roadway and on the sidewalk.

Police told Channel 4 that several witnesses heard gun shots, but they don't yet have a cause of death. However, investigators said the victim was not involved in a traffic incident.

Police were called just after 2 a.m. when someone reported finding the body of a man in his late teens or early 20s near the intersection of Fort Caroline and Hermitage Road, a few blocks east of Fort Caroline Elementary School.
