JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy Saturday morning that they believe was the result of an altercation after a dice game.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Shawn Corsey said the teenager was shot in the courtyard at the Landon Imperial Apartments at 1913 Art Museum Drive just before 9:45 a.m. The boy was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

Witnesses told police a group was playing a dice game in the courtyard. When it ended, two men approached the victim in the courtyard and demanded money.  Police are not sure if they took anything from him, but one of the men fired a weapon at the teen.

It is still unclear if the victim lived in the complex and police are still looking for the gunman.

The JSO continues to interview witnesses and say the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
