Police: Student stabbed girl, himself at high school
A student at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando stabbed a girl before stabbing himself, according to police.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of the school, which is located at 6500 Turkey Lake Road.
According to Orlando police, a school resource officer discovered that two students were involved in a fight and alerted authorities.
Neither student received life-threatening injuries, but both were taken to a hospital, police said.
Orlando police described the stabbing as a "isolated incident" and the school was not placed on lockdown.
The school principal, Gene Trochinski, sent a voice message to parents, alerting them to the incident.
"A male student injured a female student and then injured himself before he was apprehended by police," Trochinski said. "There is no cause for further alarm. ... Students, staff and our school resource officers all helped minimize the seriousness of this incident by following safe school procedures."
An investigation is ongoing.
