JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Two people were injured when a woman fired a BB gun Tuesday afternoon on the Northside, according to Jacksonville police.

Police said the woman, whose identity wasn't immediately released, was in a camper under a small bridge at August Drive and Zoo Parkway when she apparently shot herself in the foot about 1:15 p.m. She also shot a man trying to put a kayak in the water, police said. The man was grazed by a BB and was OK.

Police said they don't know why the woman shot at the man. They said the two don't know each other.

"It seems to be a pretty random act," Detective Beau Bottin said.

Police said the man felt being struck by something but didn't know what, and he flagged down a passing state trooper.

The woman was detained and taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center. She will likely be charged, police said. They said they found the BB gun.

The incident prompted officers to respond to the area carrying assault weapons.

Heckscher Drive was not shut down despite the police presence.
