RNC reveals transformed stadium for convention
The Republican National Convention says it's on schedule for building the event's acoustics, lighting, seating and stage at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
RNC officials revealed a transformed convention floor at the Forum during a news conference Monday. Just two weeks ago, the stadium looked like it was ready for a sporting event - and now it's filled with cables, lighting and the skeleton of a stage where candidate Mitt Romney will accept the party's nomination.
About $520,000 was spent on upgrading the acoustics of the forum, including the placement of 100,000 square feet of acoustic blankets along the arena's ceiling. The cost was shared by the Tampa Bay Lightning - the hockey team that calls the venue home - and the RNC.
The convention will be held Aug. 27-30.
