St. Augustine hotel restores bride-to-be's rooms

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -

Lisa Dolyak got news Monday night that she can start putting the pieces of her dream wedding back together.

Dolyak, a Michigan resident, planned her September 2013 wedding in St. Augustine, and reserved 20 hotel rooms for her guests at the Howard Johnson's in St. Augustine.

Those hotel rooms were quickly taken away as soon as the city of St. Augustine announced the 'Mumford and Sons' concert on the same weekend as Dolyak's wedding.

Dolyak told Channel 4 that she already has a contract with the Howard Johnson hotel that she booked with. She said she thought her rooms were secured, but now she is hearing from family members trying to book the remaining 10 rooms that they've been canceled because of an upcoming Mumford and Sons concert.

Channel 4's Scott Johnson asked Howard Johnson about the issue, but was told Friday that management was not available to respond. Wyndham Worldwide, Howard Johnson's parent company, also had not responded by Friday night.

"It is really stressful and heartbreaking that some of our out of state family already budgeted and may not be able to make it now because of that," said Dolyak.

After being put off by the hotel manager again on Monday afternoon, Johnson contacted Howard Johnson's corporate headquarters, where general manager Tripal Shah said the hotel is now rebooking all 20 rooms for Dolyak and is offering the bride and groom a complimentary honey moon suite.

"We sincerely apologize to Ms. Dolyak and her fiancé for any confusion or inconvenience that this issue may have caused, which was the result our hotel's reservation system becoming overwhelmed and not by the intentional efforts of anyone on our staff," Tripal Shah said. "As you can imagine, all of our guests are extremely important to us and since this issue has been brought to our attention, we've been working tirelessly to try and resolve to the satisfaction of all involved. We're pleased to be able to share that, as of this evening, Ms. Dolyak's room block has fully been restored. Plus, as an additional gesture of good will, we would also like to offer the couple one complimentary night in our honey moon suite. We wish the bride and groom the very best in their future together."

When told of the news, Dolyak she said she is still frustrated with the entire experience. Dolyak said she had to be proactive and book other rooms at other hotels in case the Howard Johnson didn't give her the rooms back.

"We couldn't wait, the hotels were shooting up, we had to find something so we couldn't wait," Dolyak said.

She said she is not sure if she will consider the Howard Johnson's offer.

"Not sure, at this point. We just want to be compensated for the travel that we have to pay for now, because we don't trust them with reservations on such an important day," Dolyak said.
