St. Johns County deputies warn of phone scam

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is advising residents of a possible scam in the name of law enforcement.

The Sheriff's Office said it has received several calls recently of a suspicious solicitation. The caller states that
they are working with the Sheriff's Office to raise money to help children.

Deputies said the caller has also been using aggressive tactics in at least one of the calls. Victims have not given any money to the callers, but alerted the Sheriff's Office because of their suspicions, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office reminds residents that it does not solicit funds over the phone. Deputies said anyone who receives a call soliciting in the name of law enforcement should note the phone number and report that number to the nearest law enforcement agency.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office non-emergency number is 904-824-8304.
