The man who police say failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into the bedroom of 17-year-old JaNay Jackson 17 days ago was arrested Friday night by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Ismet Sijamhodzic, 51, was arrested on a charge of vehicular homicide after a toxicology report showed Sijamhodzic had Xanax and marijuana in his system at the time.

"The waiting was terrible," JaNay's mother, Felicia Jackson, said Friday night. "There was nothing we could do; just sit there and pray.”

Last weekend hundreds of people gathered for a funeral service at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home to remember Jackson.

The Wolfson High School drum major was ranked third in her senior class. Family and friends say she dreamed of becoming a nurse practitioner.

According to the police report, the Sijamhodzic told investigators he hadn't slept in three days prior to the Aug. 28 accident.

He has a lengthy list of traffic violations and speeding tickets dating back to 1996, according to court records. Sijamhodzic was arrested in 2009 and was charged with providing alcohol to a minor.

Sijamhodzic was expected to make a first appearance in court on the vehicular homicide charge Saturday morning.

"We're ready to see him get what he deserves , want want to get to trial and get it over with," Felicia Jackson said.
