A 19-year-old Jacksonville man was sentenced Friday to 45 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted second-degree murder in the shooting of another man in October 2010.

Prosecutors said Raymond Austin Jr., then 17, shot Carl Davis in the chest after Davis was lured to a Jacksonville parking lot.

Austin's co-defendant, Shanda Merritt, was Davis' ex-girlfriend. She will go to trial on the attempted murder charge on Aug. 20.

Austin will be back in court Nov. 13 for the trial involving the 2010 kidnapping, armed robbery and first-degree murder of 83-year-old Charles Soukup.

Austin, Merritt and two co-defendants are charged with kidnapping Soukup from the Jacksonville International Airport and then killing him. Soukup's body was found near the airport. The car Austin used in the attempted-murder of Davis was Soukup's rental vehicle, prosecutors said.
