JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A 19-year-old man who accidentally shot himself in the head Tuesday morning in a Northwest Jacksonville home has died, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said three young men were in a house in the 11100 block of Key Haven Boulevard about 11 a.m., and Kenneth Smith was handling a gun when it discharged, hitting him in the head.

He was rushed to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center in critical condition. Police said Friday he later died.

Darryl Austin (pictured, right), 20, was arrested in relation to the case on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence for removing the firearm from the scene, police said.

The other man was also questioned but was not arrested.

It's uncertain who owns the gun.
