JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A witness at a nearby smoke shop said a man stole a woman's Ford Mustang, took it for a joyride and then crashed it into a pole on Jacksonville Southside early Saturday morning.

The crash happened in front of the Shell gas station at Emerson St. and Interstate 95 around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

A witness said the man stole the car from a woman while she left it running outside a bar and sped off with it. She said he hit a curb and then crashed into a sign.

After that, she said the man got out, went inside a store to buy a 'Black and Mild' cigar, then called a friend who picked him up.

Witnesses said they called police but officers didn't arrive in time to catch the man.

The Mustang still sat in front of the gas station around noon Saturday, and looked to have sustained severe damage.

If you have any information about what happened or where the carjacker is, call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
