JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A 22-year-old woman died in a crash on Girvin Road in East Arlington early Monday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

A neighbor heard a loud bang around 5:30 a.m. and went outside to discover a car struck a tree.  That person went to help the driver and found her unresponsive in the passenger seat.  The impact of the crash forced her out of the driver's seat, even though she was wearing her seat-belt, according to JSO.

Police on Wednesday identified the victim as Katherine Hopwood. They said she drifted off the west side of Girvin Road, then overcorrected and crossed to the east side of the road and ran into the tree.

When police and rescue arrived, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Girvin Road was closed for several hours during the investigation.
