Missing 11-year-old boy found safe

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – As local and state law enforcement join the search for Donald Benjamin Henderson, the boy who was missing overnight was brought to the Green Cove Spring Police Department.

Police say the boy, who the family calls Benny, was at a friend's house Friday night.

"Lady came running down the hall and said, 'Somebody is missing,' and I said, 'Hey, that's me,'" said Benny Henderson.

"I just grabbed him and hugged him, and then I found out what happened. He said they were playing video games, and it was midnight, before he realized. I know he's afraid of the dark so they said he could spend the night rather than walk home," said Crystal Henderson, Benny's mother.

A Florida Missing Child Alert was issued overnight for the 11-year-old, who was last seen about 6:30 p.m. Friday in the area of North Citizen Street in Green Cove Springs.

When his he didn't return and mother couldn't locate him, she called police at 10:30 p.m.   The Green Cove Springs police and the Clay County Sheriff's Office searched through the night.  Early Saturday morning, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a statewide Missing Child Alert.

The friend's parents brought him to the police station just after 8 a.m.
