VIDEO: It's an emotional anniversary for a Brunswick family; their 13-month-old toddler was murdered one year ago. Antonio Santiago was shot and killed while he and his mother were taking a walk. 18-year-old De'Marquise Elkins is serving a life sentence for the shooting, while the other teen charged awaits trial.

Friday is the first anniversary of Antonio Santiago's murder. His mother, Sherry West, says his death has changed her life forever.

The 13-month-old was shot and killed while on a neighborhood stroll with West.

De'Marquise Elkins, 18, is serving a life sentence for the murder. A second teen charged with the murder is awaiting his trial.

West said Friday has been difficult. She said when she thinks she's moved on from what happened, memories of her son bring her back to the moment his life was taken.

The 42-year-old said her life took a dramatic turn when she and Antonio were shot near London and Ellis streets in Brunswick.

"I still have a constant reminder on cold days, rainy days. My tendons in my leg hurt and it reminds me of that day," said West. "I can't walk down that street. I can't drive down that street. I don't go over there anymore."

West was struck the left leg. Antonio was shot in the head.

As Elkins (pictured) serves a life sentence for the shooting, his mother, Karmiah Elkins, is serving 10 years for lying to police and hiding the gun.

West said she is satisfied with their prison sentences. Since the tragedy, she's moved seven miles away from the crime scene. She lives with her new boyfriend, Anthony.

Friday, for the first time, they visited the memorial for Antonio at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. An anonymous donor had his name engraved in stone.

West said she appreciates the support and prayers as she moves forward with her life without Antonio.

"I want to thank everyone for caring about me and my baby," said West.

West said that she is still receiving cards and letters from people all over the world who have been impacted by this case.

Dominic Lang is the second murder suspect. His trial date has not been set.
