Area events commemorate Memorial Day

The following events will take place on Monday to honor Memorial Day:

9 a.m. - City of Jacksonville Honors Fallen Heroes - Veterans Memorial Wall, 1145 E. Adams Street
This annual citywide gathering will honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation. This year, five names will be added to the more than 1,700 listed names of service men and women currently on the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Wall. Pre-ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. with music by Navy Band Southeast.

10 a.m. - Palatka Parade and Memorial Ceremony, downtown Palatka. 
The parade to feature marching bands, community groups and organizations, and various other floats and units. Part of Blue Crab Festival.

10 a.m. - Green Cove Ceremony, Russell Haven of Rest Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2335 Sandridge Road

10 a.m. - St. Augustine National Cemetery, 104 Marine Street, St. Augustine
Hosted by the Ancient City Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America and the Florida National Guard, the ceremony will be held to the south of the historic St. Francis Barracks and will include the annual massing of colors with field music of pipes and drums. Immediately following the ceremony, guests are invited to the Central Plaza, where the Pilot Club of St. Augustine will add two bronze plaques to the war memorial honoring those from St. John's County who fell in Afghanistan and Iraq.

10 a.m. - Camp Blanding Museum & Memorial Park, 5629 Florida 16 W.
Brig Gen. James O. Eifert, assistant adjutant general, Florida Air National Guard speaks. Ceremony includes a 21 gun salute and the traditional laying of the wreath.

11 a.m. - Keystone Heights Ceremony, AmVets Post 86, 6685 Brooklyn Bay Road.
Speakers are retired Navy Cmdr. John Davis, AmVets Post 86, and retired Navy Cmdr. Noel Thomas, American Legion Post 202. Includes music, a re-enactment, a flyover and the Laying of the Wreath.

2 p.m. - Veterans Salute Their Fallen, Beaches Veterans Memorial Park, 1127 Atlantic Blvd. at Mayport Road
Terry Parker High School Navy JROTC, Wolfson High School Army JROTC and a variety of veterans organizations. Speaker is retired Navy Capt. Mike Zunni.
