A 21-year-old Jacksonville man was sentenced to five years in federal prison Monday for possessing a firearm while selling marijuana, officials say.

According to court documents, Jairus Quaintance was selling marijuana from a street corner just north of downtown Jacksonville.

An officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office made contact with Quaintance and found that he was armed with a loaded 9mm pistol and marijuana packaged for sale.

Quaintance pleaded guilty on Aug. 28.
