ATLANTA, Ga. -

Atlanta's zoo is kicking off the weekend by celebrating World Elephant Day.  It wants to get people interested in the plight of African elephants.

Zoo Atlanta is among many across North America wanting to raise awareness.  It's part of the 96 Elephants campaign.

According to the zoo, World Elephant Day is Tuesday.  Zoo Atlanta is kicking off the celebration Saturday with Go Grey Day.  It encourages visitors to wear grey.

According to the zoo, it plans to hold activities centered around elephants.  The zoo hopes bringing awareness will get people wanting to take action for African elephants and their situation in the wild.
