ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -

The Atlantic Beach City Commission may consider some changes to the recently approved human rights ordinance.

It was approved 4-0 on Aug. 11, but Commissioner Jonathan Daugherty has asked it be reconsidered.

It could be taken up Sept 8.

There will not be a vote to potentially rescind the ordinance.

The ordinance gives protection to members of the community based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.

The ordinance applies to employment, housing and public accommodations.

Atlantic Beach is the first city in northeast Florida with an ordinance with protections that explicitly include sexual orientation and gender identity.
