Coast Guard crew from Atlantic Beach rescues sick passenger on cruise ship

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., medically evacuated a 67-year-old woman Friday evening from the cruise ship Carnival Fantasy 80 miles east of Ponce De Leon Inlet, Fla.

Staff aboard the Fantasy requested a Coast Guard medevac and consulted with a Coast Guard flight surgeon, who recommended the woman be taken to a hospital since she was experiencing life-threatening symptoms consistent with previous medical complications.

The Clearwater aircrew hoisted the woman off the cruise ship and transferred her, her husband and a nurse to UF Health Jacksonville.
