COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -

The Columbia County School District as well as Ware and Charlton schools in Georgia will be closed Tuesday for all students and employees because of the cold weather.

School will resume normal operation on Wednesday.

The Columbia County School District said the closings were recommended by the Columbia County Emergency Management director.

It said there will be an expected wind chill factor of zero degrees, morning temperatures of 15 degrees and a very strong potential for black ice, or a thin coating of glazed ice, on the roadways.

Meanwhile, Baker County schools will be open Tuesday, but parents who keep their kids home because of weather hardship must send a note with them to school Wednesday.

No other school districts in the area have announced closings.
