Community center temporarily closed after water valve bursts

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The Robert F. Kennedy Gym and Recreation Center on Ionia Street will be closed through Monday to allow crews to assess damage and make repairs to a water valve that burst on Friday, the mayor's office announced.

JEA, the City of Jacksonville Division of Public Buildings and ASAP Plumbing are working to resolve the situation and expect the center, which is located at 1133 Ionia Street, to reopen on Tuesday.

The mayor's office encourages Jacksonville residents to use the other facilities in the area this weekend, including Emmett Reed Gymnasium and Recreation Center at 1093 W. 6th St., which will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Emmett Reed Pool will be open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.
