All eastbound lanes of University Boulevard West at Philips Highway were shut down late Monday afternoon because of what appeared to be cooking oil on the road.

Department of Transportation officials were working to clean off the oil, but the road was expected to be closed for hours.

Police said a truck driver stopped at a traffic light and his load shifted just after 4 p.m. The cap was not secured and started leaking oil onto the roadway.

The driver then pulled over and secured the cap.

The lanes remained closed after 6 p.m.
