Couple celebrates 72 years of marriage
An Orange City couple celebrated their 72nd marriage anniversary this summer at their assisted living facility.
According to Oak View Assisted Living, Francis Vanderslice, 98, and Doris Vanderslice, 97, met in seventh grade in their hometown of Camden, N.J. Several years later, the two started dating.
After five years of dating, the couple married and moved to Pennsauken, N.J. where they bought their first home for $5,000. Francis worked as an inspector for Campbell's Soup and Doris taught kindergarten for 38 years. Although they do not have children of their own, Doris felt like her students were her children.
The couple moved to Florida for retirement, first living in Delray and now living in Orange City. The Vanderslices have lived in Florida for more than 40 years.
The Vanderslices displayed a metal can that was from the couple's wedding day in 1942 at a celebration in honor of their wedding anniversary at Oak View Assisted Living at John Knox Village.
