Couple dead in apparent murder-suicide

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A St. Johns County married couple were found dead at their home in an apparent murder-suicide Friday morning, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the home in the 100 block of Plumton Court in the Whitelock Farms neighborhood just after 11 a.m. They said a relative found the couple's bodies inside.

The victims were identified as 49-year-old Cheryl Carlyle and 57-year-old David Carlyle.

Deputies said a firearm was involved. After securing a search warrant to enter the home, crime scene technicians have spent hours inside gathering evidence.

"We have to reconstruct the events and timeline to determine what occurred inside the residence," Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan said. "We're reconstructing the crime scene as it occurred. We will at some point in time be able to tell you who we believe the initial shooter was in this particular issue."

He said investigators would interview neighbors to see if they saw or heard anything.

The Carlyles were both officers in a corporation called DCE Services, which is now defunct.

Neighbors said they had two children.

"We have in fact interviewed some of the individuals already, and we will interview others who are less connected with the events today to determine background," Mulligan said. "And reconstructing what was going on in these individuals' lives that led up to these events today."

There's no record of police ever having been called to the residence before Friday.
