GAINESVILLE, Fla. -

Four people are dead and one is in the hospital after a crash Saturday night on Interstate 75 in Gainesville.

FHP Spokesperson Sergeant Tracy Hisler-Pace says it happened just after 8 p.m. at mile marker 387 in Gainesville just north of Newberry Road.

The crash involved two vehicles according to investigators, a White Toyota pickup truck and a silver Nissan sedan.

According to a preliminary investigation, FHP says the truck driven by Hunter G. Bailey, 21, of Lake City, was heading northbound on I-75 when the driver crossed the median into the southbound lane, hitting the car.

FHP is still investigating the scene and has not determined what caused the truck to leave the roadway. Bailey was the only occupant of the truck and died on the scene.

Investigators say there were four people in the car. Three died on scene, while the other was transported to UF Health in Gainesville in critical condition.

Traffic on I-75 traveling south was diverted by Alachua County sheriff's deputies and Gainesville police officers off of the interstate at Exit 390, and the crash shut down all lanes of traffic on I-75 southbound for more than three hours.

Investigators have not released the names of the people in the car.
