TAMPA, Fla. -

Rescue crews are searching for two men who phoned the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office to say they were lost in a canoe along the Hillsborough River.

Deputies say a man called on his cell phone around 8 p.m. Monday to say he was unable to find his way back to a launch site at John B. Sargeant Park.

According to a news release, there has been no further communication with the man.

The sheriff's office sent aircraft and marine units to the area to search for the men.
They believe the men are in one of the many swampy inlets along the river.

No further details were immediately available.
