Dog credited with saving family after car catches fire at Orlando RV park

Jo-Jo awakens owner after VW Beetle ignites

ORLANDO, Fla. – A dog is being credited with helping save a family after the animal alerted its owner to a car on fire just outside their recreational vehicle in an Orlando RV park.

The Volkswagen Beetle burst into flames for an unknown reason around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lake Breeze RV Park off Lee Road near Edgewater Drive and Orange Blossom Trail.

A dog named Jo-Jo awakened its owner, who was in a nearby camper.

"(Jo-Jo) jumped up on the bed, whining a little bit, just sitting, propped up on the bed next to me," said the dog's owner, who also called 911.  "I thought he needed to go outside, so I looked out the window and I saw flames coming out.  I ran to his door and banged on his door and said, 'Your car's on fire.'"

The fire, which didn't spread to the RV, was extinguished, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.  Fire officials said the car had last been driven about four hours earlier.

No one was injured.
