DOT plans to widen Fuller Warren Bridge

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Only 11 years after the Florida Department of Transportation opened the new, improved Fuller Warren Bridge, officials are making plans to add an additional lane in each direction.

The DOT said Tuesday the current six-lane bridge is too crowded, and even more traffic is expected on the Interstate 95 river crossing when the current overland bridge project in St. Nicholas and San Marco is complete.  This means there could be construction along the highway through the end of the decade.

The cost of the bridge widening and related roadwork between the Southbank and the Interstate 10 interchange with Roosevelt Boulevard is estimated at $136 million.
