2 shot outside Westside grocery store

Gunman last seen running south from Tanner's

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man and woman were shot Thursday afternoon outside Tanner's Grocery Store on Hipps Road, but the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the victims are expected to recover from their injuries. 

Police said a gunman came around the corner of the store about 2:20 p.m. and started firing at the victims, age 24 and 17. One was hit in the abdomen and the other in the arm. Their names were not released.

The man was last seen running south on Bunion Drive. Police did not have any description of the shooter.

Detectives were at UF Health Jacksonville interviewing the victims trying to learn if they knew the gunman or why he starting shooting.

"This does not appear to be a random situation ... just from what we're seeing at the scene," Sgt. Matt Russell said.

A short time and just over 1 mile away, a stolen pickup truck crashed into the porch of a home on Weston Living Way. Police at the shooting scene did not believe the two incidents were related.
