A 72-year-old Hawthorne man died Sunday morning after a tractor-trailer crossed over the median of U.S. 301 and struck him head on, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say Wiley Clark was driving south in a Dodge Ram pickup truck at 7:35 a.m. when he was struck by a northbound big rig that crossed into the southbound lane.  Clark died at the scene.

Wilbur Peterson, 30, of Jacksonville, who was driving the tractor-trailer, had only a minor injury. According to the FHP report, blood-alcohol tests are pending on Peterson and charges against him are pending.
