Police in Jacksonville are trying to identify a man who robbed a Southside motel Sunday afternoon.

Police said the man went into Econo Lodge at 5624 Cagle Avenue about 2:30 p.m. and approached the front counter. He spoke with employees and then stepped out of their view, then walked behind the counter and grabbed the male employee by the neck, police said.

The robber told them to give him the money, then opened a drawer, removed cash and fled.

The robber is described as a black man, 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 6 inches tall and between 140 and 150 pounds, with a relatively large afro. He was wearing a blue button down shirt.

Anyone who has any information on his identity is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
